Itinerary
**Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda** Today, you will be picked up from either the airport upon your arrival or your hotel, depending on your location. We will begin with a short city tour of Kigali, where you'll explore major historic and cultural sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, local craft markets, the National Museum of Rwanda, and the Presidential Museum, based on the available time. After visiting these sites, you will enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the city, with options for local dishes or continental meals according to your preference. Please inform your driver-guide about your meal preferences, so they can choose the right restaurant for you. Following lunch in Kigali, we will embark on our journey to Volcanoes National Park, the home of the mountain gorillas. After an early morning breakfast, you will be ready to begin your gorilla trekking adventure. Your driver guide will transfer you to the briefing area, where a ranger guide will explain what to expect while in the park. While you wait for everyone to arrive, indulge in the warm Rwandan hospitality with traditional dances and a cup of hot Rwandan coffee. The ranger guide will offer valuable gorilla trekking tips, such as the importance of no flash photography, and then divide you into different gorilla trekking groups. Depending on the location of the gorilla family assigned to you, your driver guide will take you to the starting point of the trailhead for your group. After your trek, you can spend the afternoon at leisure to recover from the experience or choose an optional activity, such as visiting the Musanze Caves or the Twin Lakes. After an amazing day of gorilla trekking yesterday, today you will explore the rich culture at the Iby'iwacu Cultural Village (also known as Gorilla Guards Village). Here, you'll get a taste of Rwanda's history and traditions. Many members of this cultural village are former poachers who relied on the forest for their livelihoods. By promoting their cultural heritage, this village significantly contributes to the conservation of mountain gorillas, as community members can earn a living by sharing their culture instead of resorting to poaching. At Kagera Safaris, we are dedicated to incorporating cultural experiences into our itineraries, allowing visitors to engage more intimately with the areas they explore while ensuring that local communities benefit directly from tourism income. This marks the conclusion of your 3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari. You will then be transferred to Kigali, where you have the option to return to your hotel or catch your flight back home.
