A Wildlife and Gorilla Trekking Safari is a specialized, high-intensity, and, often,, once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Uganda or Rwanda that combines hiking through dense forests to encounter endangered mountain gorillas with traditional savanna game drives.
This immersive experience allows travelers to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat and, typically, includes viewing other wildlife like tree-climbing lions, chimpanzees, elephants, and crocodiles in nearby national parks.
After an early breakfast, you will be picked up by our professional guide to begin your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Kampala-Masaka highway. The journey lasts about 6 to 7 hours and includes two stopovers. The first stop is at the Uganda Equator crossing in Kayabwe, where you'll spend at least 30 minutes taking photos of this remarkable landmark. You can also experiment with how water drains (clockwise or counterclockwise) when placed in the northern and southern hemispheres. Next, you'll continue to the Igongo Cultural Center and Country Hotel, where you can enjoy delicious local and international dishes. You also have the option to tour the local “Erijukiro” Museum, which features original artifacts from the Ankole people. Continuing your journey, you'll pass through Mbarara, known as the "land of milk and honey," and Bushenyi, where the cool air and lush vegetation will leave you in awe. Finally, your arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park will introduce you to a true paradise. Get up early for breakfast and finally start the game drive at exactly 6:30 am for a chance to encounter the lions and leopards returning from their hunt. The Queen’s mile as well as Kasenyi tracks within the vast savannah plains reward tourists with the opportunity of sighting numerous wildlife species for example side-striped jackals, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, warthogs, bushbucks, waterbucks, Topis, elands. In the afternoon, you will head for the launch trip along the Kazinga Channel, lasting about 2 hours and will be filled with surprises like spotting huge Nile crocodiles and hippos lazing on the banks of the channel. After your early breakfast, you will have a morning game Drive and then continue with your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will have your lunch in Kihihi towards the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National park and check in at your lodge. Breakfast will be served early so that you can find your fellow gorilla trekkers at the Park Headquarters at 7:00 am for briefing. Be briefed on how to behave when in the presence of Mountain gorillas. The trek is usually challenging and involves going through muddy trails but the face-to-face encounter with the mountain gorillas and spending one hour with them is a rewarding experience. After lunch, head for a relaxed evening walk to the nearby Batwa community to have an insight into how they lived in the forest before eviction. Start the most important meal of the day from the Lodge earlier before checking out and leaving for Kampala or Entebbe.
